FAQ

What is PYT?

Palace Youth Theater (PYT) is a six-week program that incorporates different aspects of theater and stage for ages 8-18 (student must be in their senior year of high school to qualify as the maximum age). The first week is devoted to preparing the kids for the audition process and introducing them to the Palace stage. The daily routine is split into two parts: daytime instructional classes on acting, music, dance and tech, followed by rehearsal in the afternoon. The program concludes with a full-scale, family oriented musical theatre production the final weekend of July.

How much does the program cost?

The six-week program costs $300 if you register before June 4th, 2013, and $350 after June 4th. Costs include a specialty designed t-shirt, a customized picture with your child in front of the Palace marquee, and a lifetime's worth of memories!

For those on a tight budget, we do offer a scheduled payment plan (please contact Scott Muska at scottmuska@centurytel.net for more details).

How long does it last?

PYT is a six-week program that starts mid-June and ends on the final show date at the last weekend of July.

On Monday,Wednesay, Thursday and Friday, the program runs from 9:30am-2:00pm with classes in the morning, lunch from 11:30-12:00pm, followed by segmented rehearsals from 12:00-2:00pm.

On Tuesdays the program is shortened due to the Summer Fun Movie at 1pm, which means the kids will only rehearse from 9:30am-12:00pm. NOTE: Unless your child is staying to watch the Summer Fun Movie, they should not bring a lunch and must notify their ride that they will be done at noon.

What if my child does not want to sing, dance or act on stage?

Not a problem! Our technical director can provide your child with hands-on experience to set building, backstage help, and even learning how to work the light booth and spotlights! Also, a student can learn the essentials of costumes, props, and applying makeup, which play a large role for the performers on stage. Palace Youth Theatre is not just about the show, but all the aspects that make the show possible.

How much are tickets and where can I get them?

We have several options:

  1. You can call the Palace Box Office at (440) 245-2323 and order your tickets over the phone
  2. Stop by the Palace Theatre between the hours of 10:00am-3:00pm Monday through Friday (holidays excluded)
  3. Log on to the Palace Theatre website: www.lorainpalace.com and click on the link at the top that says "Tickets & Seating"

Where do I sign up?

If your child is interested in joining the Palace Youth Theatre, check the Forms page for the most recent registration sheet, which should be completed and turned in with payment no later than June 21st. Please don't forget to include a picture of your child with the form!

Any questions regarding the registration process should be referred to Jodi Bailey, PYT Producer at (440) 773-1049 or scottmuska@centurytel.net

My child is in the show - how can I help?

Part of the registration packet includes a Parent Volunteer form, which can be submitted during the first two weeks of the program to the Producer. Help ranges from loading set pieces in & out for the shows, selling gift basket tickets or shout-outs at the performances, or carpooling kids from your area.

In the past we have done several gift baskets, which were raffled off at the final performance. If you or someone you know has something they could contribute to a gift basket (cosmetics, home crafts, kitchenware, etc.) please let us know!

Every little bit counts, and our volunteers are essential to making our program great!
